In 2006, Olympique Dramatique took the topic of terrorist extremism down to the living room level in their legendary production The Lieutenant of Inishmore, the second part, after De Kripple (The Cripple of Inishmaan), of British writer Martin McDonagh’s Aran Islands Trilogy.
An unrecognizably mutilated cat heats up tempers in a godforsaken Irish village. Who ran over 'mad' Padraick’s cat? And was it really an accident, or was it cold-blooded murder? Worn out from bombing and murdering people in Northern Island, Padraick returns home. He wants to know exactly what’s what, because Padraick is... a real pussy lover.
In his merciless satire about extreme violence, McDonagh sketches a bloodcurdling world of
Irish freedom fighters. Absolutely politically incorrect, over-the-top, hilarious, razor-sharp and with a menacing undertone. Like a Tarantino script, but then for theatre.
The Irish vernacular that McDonagh uses calls for a pointed variant in a self-compiled,
bastardized language based on Dutch, Flemish, Antwerpian, French, English and German.
Just as in De Krippel, this requirement is particularly well suited to Olympique Dramatique’s
team.
A standout in the ‘unpretentious entertainment’ category. So gather all your friends and
hurry off to see The Lieutenant of Inishmore.
"The misunderstandings pile up to escalate into one big crime fest, with a nod to films like Pulp Fiction, and especially Reservoir Dogs ."
"Olympique Dramatique spices up every scene with grandiose acting. It is hereby proven once again that Olympique Dramatique has guts, creativity, and loads of acting talent."
"A dynamic show, in which the imagination, acting pleasure and potential of the actors reached some very fine peaks, and in which McDonagh's text possibly was given more credit than it deserved."
"Gradually you find yourself chuckling and even screaming with laughter at all of those turns of phrase and language."
