Het Duitse Thalia Theater in Hamburg en Dramaten, het Zweedse nationaal theater in Stockholm, organiseerden samen dit allereerste Europese online theaterfestival. Ze zijn beide lid van mitos21, een Europees netwerk van de toonaangevende theaters van het continent, waar ook Toneelhuis deel van uitmaakt. Van 20 t/m 29 januari bood Lessingtage 2021 elke avond een andere theatervoorstelling van over het hele continent, van België tot Rusland, van Italië tot Zweden, telkens met Engels ondertiteling.

De internationale pers keek mee. The New York Times was vol lof over Antigone in Molenbeek + Tiresias:

In Antigone, the author Stefan Hertmans transposes Sophocles’ tragedy to contemporary Belgium, where a law student, Nouria (Ikram Aoulad), embarks on a futile quest to retrieve the mortal remains of her brother, an ISIS fighter, from a forensics lab. Addressing the audience, Aoulad conveys her character’s pain and resolute sense of justice with both elegance and quaking rage.
In Tiresias, the actress Katelijne Damen recites a blistering, dizzying poem by the young British poet Kae Tempest, a subversive retelling of the myth of the blind, gender-fluid prophet. Damen’s rendition of the virtuosic text is shot through with grace and wit. Especially impressive was how the Toneelhuis’ wide-screen camerawork (shot by Charlotte Bouckaert, who is also responsible for the set) succeeded in capturing the power of chamber theater." - A.J. 'Starke Frauen aus Belgien”

"In Stefan Hertmans Mythen-Umschreibung Antigone in Molenbeek ist Antigone eine junge Studentin namens Nouria, die die flämische Schauspielerin Ikram Aoulad mit Zartheit und großer Präsenz mehr spricht als  spielt.(...) Sie versucht zu verstehen, sie hadert und sie liebt, trotz allem. Überlebensgroß zeigt ihr Gesicht dieses Ringen auf Video im Hintergrund, ergreifend erstärkt um ein Schostakowitsch-Streichquartett.
Mit dem tritt im selben Bühnenaufbau auch Katelijne Damen als Tiresias in einen Dialog, ähnlich konsequent, roh und sinnlich-musikalisch.
