Spurred on by Mokhallad Rasem, when requested the Bourla goes into the city. If you phone the Delivery Theatre number, you can order one of the performances on the menu and along comes Rasem, a folding, corrugated cardboard theatre maquette stowed away in his rucksack.
The show can commence: projections of news bulletins, excerpts from interviews, text, figures, etc. are manipulated by Rasem and together form a story, a performance in which destruction invariably plays a role.
With a nod to Antonin Artaud who advocated the ‘theatre of cruelty’ as a means to break away from the ‘bourgeois’ classical theatre, Mokhallad Rasem presents a ‘theatre of destruction’. In all his previous work a literally and figuratively ravaged world forms a projection screen and raison d’être with “What will happen after the devastation?” as the ultimate question. What life will reveal itself after the destruction? Is our imagination powerful enough to generate from this ‘theatre of destruction’ a transformation that can once again conjure beauty from the splinters and debris?
Delivery Theatre takes Rasem into many different sitting-rooms in the city. With the stories he tells in his corrugated cardboard theatre, he hopes to draw a network of lines through the city so as to literally connect the Bourla with the citizen. So just pick up the phone and dial 03 224 88 44
