The show can commence: projections of news bulletins, excerpts from interviews, text, figures, etc. are manipulated by Rasem and together form a story, a performance in which destruction invariably plays a role.

With a nod to Antonin Artaud who advocated the ‘theatre of cruelty’ as a means to break away from the ‘bourgeois’ classical theatre, Mokhallad Rasem presents a ‘theatre of destruction’. In all his previous work a literally and figuratively ravaged world forms a projection screen and raison d’être with “What will happen after the devastation?” as the ultimate question. What life will reveal itself after the destruction? Is our imagination powerful enough to generate from this ‘theatre of destruction’ a transformation that can once again conjure beauty from the splinters and debris?
