The innovative Flemish theatre company FC Bergman is coming to the Netherlands. Their lauded adaptation of Van den Vos Reynaerde is a visual horror trip that instead of the vicious Fox revolves around the tragic Wolf.” - De Volkskrant (NL)
In Van den vos, the young Flemish collective FC Bergman turn the medieval animal epic About Reynard the Fox upside down with spectacular theatrical and filmic effects. FC Bergman lavishly employs astounding effects, but unlike their earlier productions, in which effects took the leading role, here they are in service to the story. The stirring film images, the ominous sounds of the Berlin music ensemble Kaleidoscop impress in a functional manner. And of course, it helps that the swagger of these young makers has found a firm foundation in the proven qualities of De Pauw, Roofthooft and De Muynck. - NRC Handelsblad (NL)
Van den vos stages visual scenes with musical intermezzos. All in all, words are scarce. As a result, transitions sometimes leave one guessing. It’s not completely certain whether the makers have been unsuccessful at making their story clear or whether they actually have made a masterful interpretation of the Reynard theme of ‘appearance and reality’. In any case, they do it with a whole range of means, each of them masterly and marvellously appropriate. This special formation has so much talent. We have been given a taste of all of it.- Etcetera (BE)
